In the electronics space, components suppliers help engineers in their prototyping stages by providing free samples of their components. But is having free samples on suppliers part pages on SnapEDA something that might influence the design intent of engineers?
We analyzed the data from hundreds of thousands of downloads happening on our site to understand if sample availability is affecting download conversion among our engineering community, and what we found is very interesting.
The chart below shows the likelihood of an engineer to design-in an electronic component evaluated on SnapEDA. As shown, for every component evaluated, about 30% of parts get designed-in.
We had previously shown how the availability of MCAD models was one of the strongest variables that affected the design intent of engineers downloading on SnapEDA. However, we also found that having free samples available for request, right when the engineers are browsing for the components they need in their design, also greatly affects their design intent. Below, you’ll find a chart showing that parts with free samples available for request, have a 54% higher probability of being designed-in.
We understand how prototyping is crucial for product design and development. We also now understand that providing the samples needed for this prototyping in early stages of the design can also influence engineering design intent in the electronic space.
